Friday fun at work

Ok, ok, my work is probably not fun to most people, but on Fridays I like to do something a little different to keep things interesting. Today I made passive ethernet tap to use with intrusion detection software on the office network. Aside from striping a bunch of Cat5 (anyone know a good way to strip the middle part of a wire?), it wasn’t too hard to put together. It reminded me a lot of my days working for the cable company. And I was pretty happy when it worked the first time I tried it.

Yes, but what does it do?? So you can tell when people are stealing internet access?

Karen and I used to have iChat sessions on Fridays…. I think we should pick that up again! Probably not as productive as making a passive ethernet tap, but still makes the day more interesting!

@Lydia: basically, it let’s you watch what’s going on without interfering with the information. It’s completely transparent to the network (hence, passive ethernet tap).
